Decathlon to open 17,000sqm Dublin superstore this weekend, with cycling

Decathlon's newest store is in Ballymun, Dublin, and is set to open this Saturday. It caters for 70 sports, including cycling

Decathlon is set to open the first of its nine Irish stores this weekend at its superstore in Ballymun, north Dublin, on Saturday.

The shop is often referred to as “the IKEA
for sports” and its first Irish outlet is situated adjacent to the IKEA story
in Ballymun.

The 17,000sq metre store consists of 4,000sq metres of retailing space, known as the ‘Sports Hub’, as well as an outdoor sporting area with playground, football pitch, bike circuit, rollerblading area and fitness machines.

At the Dublin store it also has space so it
can team up with other sports businesses to offer fitness and wellbeing
sessions, including in zumba and yoga.

While the shop had been under construction in
recent years and the opening date had not been set before now, the sports
retailer has just confirmed the Ballymun shop will open on Saturday.

The shop had been ready to open its doors for
about 10 weeks but because of the Covid19 pandemic it was forced to delay its
retailing debut in the Irish market.

However, with the Republic now re-opening
after the Covid19 lock-down period, Decathlon has decided this weekend is the
time to open its doors.

The Ballymun store will open at 10.30am on
Saturday, though given the continued need for social distancing Decathlon has
reminded intended customers it will be “open in Ireland forever” and there was
no rush to visit the store.

Among the cycling brands on offer in-store and online are Shimano, BTWIN, Van Rysel, Triban, Rockrider, Sram and Aptonia cycling kit for triathlon, among others.
