A search is on for a man who reached out of a car and pushed a cyclist off his bike in Co Wicklow last weekend as another man in the back of the car was recording.
The victim of the incident, who was training in full cycling kit at the time, rang Joe Duffy’s Liveline programme on RTE Radio 1 to highlight what had happened.
He said he believed the incident was probably recorded and while he had check online for footage, he couldn’t see anything.
However, a clip of the incident has since emerged. It has been circulating on WhatsApp in recent days and now RTE has published the video.
It has also spoken to the cyclist, who is not being identified for now, and he has confirmed the incident in the video shows him being pushed from his bike while he was out training in the Blessington Lakes area of Co Wicklow.
Gardai are now investigating the case and the video is being used to try and identify the men in the vehicle and also trace the car they were traveling in as passengers.
“I was up at the back end of the Blessington Lakes last Saturday and a car came up behind me,” the cyclist said while being interviewed on air by broadcaster Joe Duffy.
“I could feel him coming up and so I moved in slightly on the road. And the next minute I could feel a hand on my back, an unmerciful shove and I was pushed onto the side of the ditch.”
Gardai are investigating the matter and anyone who believes they know who the men in the car are is asked to come forward.
