Just a few short hours after the dreaded news was confirmed that Sean Lynch had lost his battle for life, the Irish cycling community has posted touching messages about him.
One thing shines through: when he was in your company, you knew it, and for all the right reasons.
Many people have spoken of a man with
boundless positive energy whom you could not help but warm to.
Sean, from Rathfeigh in Co Meath, was 34-years-old and tragically died today after crashing while racing in Wexford last Sunday.
An A3 rider, he was competing in the
colours of Drogheda Wheelers this year but had also previously ridden for Navan
Road Club.
Spun Cycles in Trim, Co Meath, shared a
heartfelt message about Sean.
“Myself, Dave and Mick want to pass on our deepest condolences to the family, fiancée and friends of Sean Lynch who passed away earlier today," it said.

"Sean was a character, he had time for everyone and always a story to share from his previous race antics.
“He was always over with us in the shop and would never
leave until he got his cup of tea and a biscuit. He lived and breathed cycling.
“There wasn't a bad bone in him and that's rare enough to
find these days. Rest in peace Sean.”
Comeragh Cycling Club said: "So sad to hear this awful news today. When we go racing, we know it’s risky.
"We know we may suffer a few cuts and bruises, maybe a broken bone or two. But we never in a million years imagine not coming home to our family and friends.
“We express our deepest sympathies to Sean’s loved ones,
friends and club mates, present and past. May he rest in peace.”
Junior Irish international Sean Nolan, who raced with tragic
Sean Lynch in the colours of Navan Road Club last year, said he’d never be
forgotten.
“A great guy I'm proud to have
called my friend. My condolences to all Sean’s family. Never Forgotten.”
Another young international rider and elite team pursuit
national champion, Mark Smith, echoed those sentiments.
“Rest in peace Sean. A great character and he will be missed.”
Another well known rider on the home scene and Irish
international sighted tandem pilot with the Irish paracycling squad, Jennifer
Bates said Sean’s character would be missed.
“The car park pre and post race chats will be a much quieter
place without you there. I pray you shine bright, Sean, just as your smile
always did.”
Velo Club Balrothery also pointed to Sean’s great character
and extended its best wishes to those closest to him.
“Velo Club Balrothery would like to offer the Lynch family, friends, and club members our deepest sympathy for the tragic loss of Sean in an accident while he was involved in his beloved sport,” the club said.

“May he rest in peace. He will be missed by all and remembered with fondness.”
Deenside Wheelers were among the many clubs who wrote
messages to pay tribute to Sean.
“All of us here at Deenside Wheelers are very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Drogheda Wheelers cyclist Seán Lynch,” it said.
“Sean loved cycling and racing and always had time for a chat. Condolences to Seán's family and to his Drogheda Wheelers family.”
And South Dublin Cycling Club also remembered its fellow
road racer.
“All at South Dublin Cycling Club are very saddened to hear of the tragic and untimely death of Sean Lynch a fellow road racer from Drogheda Wheelers.
"Our sincere condolences to his family and all that knew him. May he rest in peace.”
Another Dublin club, Blanch Wheelies, also expressed its
sadness over Sean’s death.
“It brings us great sadness to hear of the untimely passing of Sean Lynch today,” the club said.
“All the members of Blanch Wheelies would like to express their most sincere condolences to Sean’s family, friends and club mates.
“He was well known and liked by our members. He will be a
loss to the cycling community and will be sadly missed.”
Moynalty Cycling Club remembered the positive energy around
Sean, which he brought everywhere with him.
“The members of Moynalty Cycling Club would like to express
their sincere condolences to the Lynch family on the tragic death of Sean,” it
said.
“We also send sympathy to his
wide circle of friends and his cycling colleagues in Drogheda Wheelers and
Navan Road Club whose colours he proudly wore.
“He will be sadly missed
in the peloton and his big smile and boundless enthusiasm will be remembered by
all who cycled and raced with him. Rest in peace Sean.”
Bohermeen Cycling Club said its members had felt great
sadness on hearing of Sean’s death.
“Anybody who was involved in cycling would more than likely
have encountered Sean at some stage over the last number of years and was a guy
whom everybody warmed too,” they said.
“A guy who was passionate beyond words about his love of the
sport of cycling. On behalf of Bohermeen cycling club our deepest condolences
to his family, friends and fellow racers. RIP Sean.”
Lucan CRC said: “On behalf of the members and friends of
LCRC I would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and
members of Drogheda Wheelers and the Navan Road Club on the untimely passing of
Sean Lynch. Rest In Peace young man.”
Ballymoney Cycling also reached out to sympathise and
express its members’ shock
“Ballymoney CC would like to convey their sympathies to the
family and friends of Sean Lynch who died today following injuries sustained in
a tragic accident in a race at the weekend,” it said.
“Our thoughts and prayers
are with his family, his club mates in both Drogheda Wheelers and Navan Road.”
