Video: Watch top Irish rider go all Jamie Oliver making his 'Ninja smoothie'

Patrick Clarke has been one of the best riders on the home scene for a number of years and now he tries his hand at being a TV chef.

If Patrick Clarke is stuck for something to do when he hangs up his racing wheels in many years to come, he could do worse than try to make it as a TV chef.

He put together this 'Ninja Smoothie' and recorded his efforts for a bit of craic. But it's actually very good and with some sound and lighting improvements, Clarke might be onto something here.

The Ballina CC rider is training hard and eating clean ahead of the upcoming road season and this homemade clip is further proof of his undying passion for getting the best out of himself.

He presents his 2½ minute video making his healthy concoction using a ‘Nutri Ninja’ and his commentary as he goes is just priceless.

For Clarke, portion size and exact measurements are no major concern.

He starts by adding in some cabbage, apple, cucumber, carrot and “all kinds of crazy stuff”, though later refers to the latter as simply beetroot.

He then lavishes huge praise on his beetroot.

“People in the cycling world have been drinking these bad boys until their urine is pink,” he says.

The beetroot ‘base’ is followed by “Popeye food”, or spinach, more cabbage - “because you just can’t go wrong” - and some more carrot for “good grace”.

Finding space for grapes, Clarke continues , “someone told me after 6pm it will spike my blood sugar if I eat grapes but to be honest, I don’t think it will matter where my blood sugar goes once this goes into me.”

“This is raw goodness,” he points out afterwards. “Don’t be minding those fellas on Facebook who are throwing stuff into frying pans trying to convince you you’re eating something good.

“This is what goodness looks like and now we’ll discover what it tastes like. I’m a bit nervous, it could taste horrific but I’m going to go for it...”
