The power of German track sprinter Robert Forstemann - famed for his huge and powerful thighs - in this video is simply astounding.

 

Here's a video, the likes of which you don't see every day; where the watts generated by a rider's effort is linked to a power generation system and channelled into a household appliance.

In the clip below, German track powerhouse Robert Forstemann is put through his paces and the watts his massive legs generate are used to power a toaster.

Robert Forstemann's thighs were once measured at 34 inches; bigger than a lot of riders' waists.

 

Aside from the sheer effort the German puts in here as the force he is pushing against is increased further and further - leading to scenario closer to weightlifting than cycling - the figures at the very end of the clip are really interesting.

Based on the power Forstemann puts out in toasting the bread, the producers calculate how many Robert Forstemanns you'd need to power other things, including a commercial plane.

The German is now 29-years-old. He's 90kg and 5ft 9in and his thighs have been measured at 34 inches; bigger than most riders’ waists.

He is a track sprinter, specialising in the individual and team sprint and also the 1km TT.

He's been European and world champion at the team sprint and has a huge list of honours as an individual.
