If you're doing some of your training indoors, especially at this time of year when the weather is bad and roads can be icy, here’s a great ‘how to’ coaching video for you.

It's a full 35 minute training session based on short sharp interval efforts to mimic climbing out on the open road.

As well as offering you the chance to side step bad weather, the main benefit of the turbo is that you can do quality training; getting the length and effort of your intervals to match exactly what you have in mind for your session.

Often on the roads with traffic lights, hills, descents and changes in wind direction as you go around a route; it can be hard to stay exactly within the range of effort you have set yourself.

But there are obviously no such problems indoors.

So instead of just climbing onto your bike on the turbo for a general effort, it might be good to start thinking of building those all important intervals into your session to make you stronger and get the real value from your time.

Varying your effort with intervals can also break up the session to make it less boring. This GCN video is a good place to start if you want to get the most from your turbo.
