Video: Irish cycling club debuts 'virtual group ride', all are welcome

With well over 700 cyclists now signed up to the Cycling Ireland Zwift Series, cycling clubs are also getting in on the act of virtual cycling.

Tomorrow morning - Saturday, April 4th - Omagh Wheelers is hosting a virtual group ride, with a difference.

This time the riders are not getting onto Zwift. Instead, Omagh Wheelers has decided to effectively hold a group ride using teleconferencing technology.

Each rider will be on his or her home trainer and can then log into Zoom for a virtual meeting with other riders in their homes on their trainers.

It gives those taking part the opportunity to connect with all of the others in the group, who can speak to each other during the ride.

Many of us will now be used to holding work-related meetings in this way. But this time around, instead of using Zoom for a group conference call, riders will use it to create a group ride dynamic.

McKenna explains more of the details in the video below. And, as he explains, advice will also be given about home training during the ride, which is an hour long and will also have a warm up and cool down.

Riders are asked to gather on Zoom from 9.15am tomorrow
and the virtual group ride will start at 9.30am.

You'll need to set up a free account for yourself on Zoom and the meeting link can be accessed by clicking right here. The meeting ID is 990 832 2570 and the password is 373035.

And remember – it’s open to all so you don’t have to be
an Omagh Wheeler, those guys will take in anyone!!
