You'll hear a lot of talk in both pro and amateur circles about using altitude training to prepare for big events. But how does it impact your performance?
We may have no mountains in Ireland high enough to train at altitude or to impact your performance when you're out riding.
But a lot of the pros swear by it and often spend camps - in a team or alone like Nicolas Roche pre Giro - to get themselves whipped into shape and prepared for a big race.
And if we're really lucky, some of us will ride some of the big climbs when we're abroad this summer where altitude will be a factor.
GCN's Simon Richardson and Matt Stephens recently put themselves to the altitude test.
Have a look and see how impacted their performance at the time.
See what the long term effects might be if you were spending long periods at altitude or putting yourself through frequent exposure to altitude.
