This photo, below, of Martyn Irvine's clenched arm shows just what good condition the Men of the Rás are in. And the three-time World Track Championships medalist is a bigger tank than most. Above, on his way to Shay Elliott Memorial victory earlier this month (Photo: Stephen McMahon)
Martyn Irvine desperately wanted a stage win in the Rás to go with his victory into Kildare four years ago.
He didn't get it but he still rode a fantastic race for Madison-Genesis. And by the looks of this arm - he's roaring fit.
The image below was taken at the end of the final stage in Skerries, north county Dublin, today and was shared on Twitter by the RTE Road to Rio account.
It's operated by a team from the national broadcaster plotting the path to the Olympics of some of Ireland’s best hopefuls; with Irvine definitely falling into that group.

Irvine is a big man; strong and ripped and full of power.
The shot of the Newtownards man's arm put us in mind of the image that emerged on Chris Froome’s legs last year just before Liège–Bastogne–Liège; we've included that photo below.
Froome was undoubtedly in great shape, but Irvine is a much bigger man and, quite frankly, looks more impressive.

Chris Froome is a completely different rider. There's more meat on Irvine's arms than on Froome's legs, but he can go up mountains very, very quickly.
