Slightly scary video reveals how many spoons of sugar in "healthy" foods

Here's a nice clip from an Irish woman who has just lost nine stone detailing the amount of sugar in everyday foods most of us would eat.

Okay, so it's Christmas week and perhaps not the best time to be reminding everyone of the dangers of dreaded sugar.

But this is a great little clip that you should get something from whatever level you're at on the bike or whether your goals for the year ahead are to represent Ireland or simply lose a bit of weight.

Dublin-based TV producer Jules Coll’s weight loss over 10 months was made into a TV documentary – Nine Stone Lighter – shown on RTÉ 2′s ‘Reality Bites’ series a couple of months ago.

She had gastric bypass surgery leading to her shedding a massive nine stone over the 10 months the cameras followed her.

And in the clip below she has teamed up personal trainer Matt Keatley to show people just how many spoons of sugar are in the everyday foods, drinks and spreads we consume.

You should keep in mind when look at this that the World Health Organisation recommends we consume no more than six teaspoons of free sugars per day.

Free sugars are basically those sugars added to our foods and drinks, as well as the table sugar we added ourselves. They do not include the sugars that naturally occur in things like fruit, honey and syrups.
