British power rider Alex Dowsett has made his data available from the incredibly fast opening stage of the Dubai Tour yesterday, Wednesday.
Having won some fantastic races as a pro - including a Giro TT stage in 2013 and the British elite TT crown - Alex Dowsett is a hugely strong rider with plenty of power under the bonnet.
Last year after a quiet few days on the Bayern Rundfahrt stage race in Germany he popped up and won the TT stage and with it the race overall.
He’s the reigning Commonwealth TT champion and also currently holds the British title. He’s a former U23 European champion against the watch.
He’s been a pro since 2010, when he first rode with Trek-Livestrong.
He then spent two years with Team Sky before moving for the 2013 season to Spanish WorldTour team Movistar; an outfit he has stayed with ever since.
He is currently riding the Dubai Tour and on Wednesday’s stage 1 finished in 78th place; on the same time as Irish pro Stephen Clancy (Novo Nordisk), just 16 seconds down on winner Marcel Kittel.
With the stage run off at an average of 29 miles per hour for 3¾ hours, we thought his data – as one of only a small number of rides from the stage shared publicly on Strava - was worth bringing to you.
Dowsett is aged 27 years. He's 75kg and 1.82 metres in height.

hen you ride with a power meter, you'll notice how your power jumps all over the place based on the terrain, grade, wind, and other factors. Weighted Average Power looks at all of this variation and provides an average power for your ride that is a better indicator of your effort than simply taking your average power. It is our best guess at your average power if you rode at the exact same wattage the entire ride.
Total work: 3,003kj
Total Work, expressed in kilojoules (kJ), is simply the sum of the watts generated during your ride. There is a close 1–to–1 ratio with 'total work' and 'calories expended' during a ride.
Tough suffer score: 114
The Strava ‘suffer score’ is an analysis of riders’ heart rate data. By tracking heart rate through a rider’s workout and its level relative to the athlete’s maximum heart rate, Strava attaches a value to show exactly how hard the rider worked. The more time riders spend going full gas and the longer their activity, the higher the score. You can compare your score to others to discover the ‘epicness’ of your ride.
