Conor Dunne, the former Irish road race champion, sets out his tips for riding your bike at this time of year

Conor Dunne knows a thing or two about getting out on his bike - often for long, grueling rides - in all kinds of weather. The former Irish pro rider - and 2018 national road race champion - rode the Giro and Vuelta during an 11-year career as an international rider.

In this video he sets out his top tips for riding your bike in the autumn; when the weather can be very changeable in Ireland and road conditions can change just as quickly. With the dark evenings now already upon us, and the clocks set to go back soon, safety should be a big concern at this time of year.

But, as Dunne says, autumn is also a time for exploring and maybe even trying new forms of racing.

In this video Dunne covers:

  • Layering up to be ready for swings in temperature during your autumn rides
  • Being prepared for the inevitable showery conditions, even if your ride starts in pleasant weather
  • Being alert to changing road conditions
  • Planning for the changing weather and daylight conditions
  • Preparing your bike
  • Looking for new routes to shake up your routine
  • Trying cyclocross while you have the chance

The video is produced by GCN, where Dunne has been working as a broadcaster since hanging up his racing wheels at the end of 2019.
