Egan Bernal may have been missing from
the pro peloton in Europe in recent weeks but he’s still doing plenty of
training.
Having returned home to Colombia shortly
after he won the Tour de France in July, the 22-year-old remains in his home
nation.
However, he’s getting ready for an end
of season period of racing which will include the World Road Championships in
Yorkshire.
That event will be his first time racing
in the UK. And he is also expected to ride other events before season end,
including a possible tilt at the Tour of Lombardy.
If his latest Strava data is anything to
go by, he’s taking a very serious approach to preparing for racing in the weeks
ahead.
He has just posted his data for a near 150-mile training ride -146.9 miles to be precise - which took him 6hrs 23mins (moving time) and included 21,701ft of climbing.
That's 236km and just over 6,600 metres if climbing.
The lowest altitude he rode at was 8,400ft and he went up to almost 9,800ft on his ride from Chia to Tunja, in the east of the Colombian Andes.
According to his data, his total workload was 5,282kJ and his weighted average power was 243 watts. Bernal is listed as 60kg.
His average speed was 23 miles per hour and he burned 5,890 calories.
Egan Bernal's big spin...
