The lads at Global Cycling Network have done a really interesting and insightful job looking at data analysis on the Tour de France.
Every rider has a GPS device tucked behind his saddle, allowing for data such as speed to be shared with cycling fans along the way.
However, this data is also being combined with other information from previous races over a number of seasons and is being used to predict the outcome of stages.
Dan Llyod, an experienced pro rider who has ridden at WorldTour level, pitted his prediction for a stage at the Tour against the data boffins. Have a look at the video below and see how he got on.
You can also keep an eye on @letourdata on Twitter. It's using the information to profile riders in the Tour in relation to each other on key stages.
It is all set out in snappy graphics about how the riders are doing generally on the race, all using the data from the saddle device.
