Cycling Ireland is inviting applications for the "Junior Athlete Development Programme 2022", which will seek to guide emerging talent through their junior years.
The programme, which is now entering its third year, will be delivered by Cycling Ireland’s high performance coaches and performance experts from multiple disciplines. Applications are invited from male and female riders who ride road, BMX, MTB XC, downhill, cyclocross and track.
"While considerable resources of the programme will consist of concentrated work with a small core group of athletes, other educational inputs will be available to all applicants," Cycling Ireland said.
Those who are successful will undergo a programme that includes:
- Individual input and feedback into your training programme from Cycling Ireland coaches.
- Physiological Testing (Covid-19 restrictions dependent)
- Education workshops by performance experts
- Sports nutrition consultation
- Sports psychology consultation
- Life skills consultation
- Training camps (Covid-19 restrictions dependent)
Cycling Ireland has stressed the athlete development programme is separate to national team selection, which has its down criteria.
An information Zoom meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 12th, at 8pm. It will include inputs from Aoife O’Brien and Darren Rafferty, who were both on the programme last year, as well as Thomas Fallon, Paul Carragher, Neill Delahaye and Martin O’Loughlin from Cycling Ireland.
The meeting will conclude with a question and answer session where any queries about the programme and junior road and track season ahead can be addressed.
Any interested riders or coaches can register for the Zoom meeting by following this link and the survey riders need to fill out to express their interest in the programme can be found at this link.
