Coaching: Preventing neck pain and upper body strain when riding

There are a number of simple and practical things you can do to prevent neck pain and general strain on the upper body caused by cycling.

Hopefully most of you won’t experience a sore neck when training at this time of year.

However, with your neck constantly extended, some riders can experience stiffness, strain or even a burning sensation when out on the bike.

Cycling is hard enough, especially during the cold winter months, without having any ailments to suffer you way through.

So if you do have any problems try and get them addressed immediately. Suffering on in silence can be very uncomfortable and will limit performance.

And if you have repeated problems, they can often lead to much more serious injuries that may leave you sideline for long periods.
