Having impressed on the home front in recent weeks, teenager Shauna McFadden is about to get a taste of international racing action.

She has been invited to ride with the Rytger team in Denmark next month.

The 16-year-old will ride the Tour de Himmelfart; a three day event from May 5th to 7th.

It includes a number of races from the youth ranks and higher, with McFadden expected to ride the junior race.

The event consists of short criterium, ‘street’ and TT stages with a road race as the fifth and final stage.

McFadden began the year well with a runner-up placed in the George Rooney Phoenix GP promoted by Phoenix CC.

And she took victory in the senior women’s race at the McCann Cup promoted by Omagh Wheelers last month.

McFadden is no stranger to competing abroad having won selection for the Youth Olympics when a youth rider and also been a member of the Talent Team 2020.

Team Rytger is based in Demark but competes at home and abroad and has had a number of successful outings in Ireland at An Post Rás na mBan.

Former multiple national champion Mel Spath rode with the team for a period.

And one of Ireland’s up and coming women Ciara Doogan of UCD-FitzCycles.ie rode for the Danes during last year’s Rás na mBan.
