Video: Philip Deignan's ride on final stage Tour de Beauce; moving him to 2nd in final overall

 

Here's a highlights video of the final stage on Sunday of the UCI 2.2-ranked six-day Tour de Beauce in Canada.

Ireland's Philip Deignan (Unitedhealthcare) infiltrated the winning escape on the 107km stage in Saint-Georges - 10 laps of a lumpy circuit.

Deignan took 6th place on the stage, but with some of the riders placed above him on general classification going into the stage stranded in the bunch behind, the Irishman jumped from 5th in the standings, to 2nd in the final general classification.

Philip Lavery, based in France this year but guesting at the race with the H&R Block Canadian team, took 5th and 10th in the opening two stages and was 24th on the final stage for a finishing position of 22nd overall.

The only other Irish rider in the race, Anthony Walsh (Astellas Oncology) was a non-finisher on the penultimate stage, easing off to give himself a rest ahead of the National Championships in Co Louth later this week.
