Paul Kennedy Newcastle West wins Champions 25 mile TT

Having ridden strongly against the watch several times already this year Paul Kennedy won the Champion of Champions TT yesterday.

The Newcastle West CC man was best of 25 miles in the Ards CC-promoted event.

Kennedy, who won elite bronze on the National TT Championships in June, clocked a time of 53:00 in wet conditions.

He was 15 seconds faster than Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport), with Ian Inglis (Black Rose) a further 1:32 back.

Paul Kennedy took victory during what was a busy weekend for him. He won the Munster criterium championships in Limerick on Saturday evening.

He then went to Newtownards for yesterday morning’s TT. And after winning there he went to Kilmessan in Co Meath where he was 4th in the Collins Christle road race.

Eileen Burns (Ballymena RC) won the women’s category in yesterday’s TT having competed for Ireland midweek in the TT at the Europeans in Glasgow.

She recorded a time of 58:43 yesterday, with Gillian Orr (North Down CC) in 2nd place in a time of 1:08:38.

Worlds masters TT champion Greg Swinand (Viner-Caremark-Pactimo) was the only non-finisher on the day after suffering a puncture.
