Having won the fixture last year, Kevin Keane made no mistake in retaining the Fota Crossbarrs cyclocross race in Co Cork today.

Keane, a very talented triathlete, was well ahead of the rest at the end of six laps in muddy, though not dreadful, conditions.

He finished the 52-minute race some 47 seconds ahead of runner-up Tim O’Regan (Aqua Blue Sport Academy).
Conor Kissane, the Killarney CC man who flew on the road this year, was 3rd another 35 seconds back.

And for the promoting club St Finbarr’s Richard Barry was well in the mix; claiming 4th spot just 19 seconds off Kissane.

Another man from Kerry, Matt Slattery of VeloRevolution, took 5th. Richard Maes (Killarney CC) rounded out the top 6.

The B race proved a very tight finish after five laps; Hugh Power of Bandon CC getting the verdict.

He won the day by just two seconds from Michael O’Connor of Fermoy CC. Ken O’Sullivan rounded out the podium for Killarney CC a further 32 seconds back.

In the women’s race, former national road race champion and road international Fiona Meade showed her class.

The Blarney CC woman was the clear winner after four laps; taking the win by 2:45.

Her nearest rival was Lisa Strapelbrook of Kenmare CC. And rounding out the podium today was Agnieszka Woźniak (Cork County CC).
