One of the strongest and hardest working riders on the home scene, Eoin O’Connell has won the VeloRevolution Grand Prix promoted by Midleton CC.

The Blarney Cycling Club rider arrived at the finish alone to celebrate his first win of the season.

He had earlier been in the breakaway in the A1-A2 main event.

However, he took flight from it on the final lap and had the legs to keep it going to the line.

The men he left behind would survive to fight for the minor placings on the day.

Paidi O Brien of Team Gerard Cycles-DHL won the sprint for 2nd from a small group.

And rounding out the podium was the in-form John Hodge of Dungarvan CC.

O’Connell has been in very good form all season; his 2nd place in the M&M Classic on Friday evening the latest in a string of good results.

He placed 5th in the Shay Elliott in Co Wicklow last month. And was also 5th in the Dungarvan CC Open Races main event.

Those results followed a series of placings in early season fixtures, with a deserved victory finally coming today.

More to follow.
