LUCAN CRC’S Cian May scored a hard-fought victory for the junior ranks in Navan Road Club’s first cyclocross race of the new season at the infamous Blackwater course.

Racing in A company, May tussled with Scott-Orwell’s Eric Downey and the uber consistent Evan Ryan (Team WORC) for lap after lap of the testing, muddy circuit.

May had exited Round Two of the Fixx Supercross Cup at Grange Castle less than halfway through, and was in determined mood on Sunday.

He dug deep in the closing laps to pull clear of his two challengers and win by seven seconds in a time of 52mins 21secs.

Downey, 16th to the mighty David Conroy last weekend, got up for second in a sprint for the line with Ryan, who has made the top 10 in both of the Fixx Supercross Cup so far this term.

The women’s race went the way of Scott-Orwell’s Breda Horan.

She was a clear winner by nearly one minute over team mate Michelle Geoghegan.

The pair benefitting from the absence of this season’s female star Lara Gillespie, presently leading the Fixx Supercross Cup with a 100 per cent record.
