Cyclo-cross is a discipline that demands a huge amount of physical and mental skill – and no shortage of bike-handling. And suffice to say whoever conquers the course in Bieles at the UCI world championships this weekend will be one heck of a rider.

The UCI World Cyclocross Championships are down for decision in Bieles, Luxembourg, this weekend and the organisers have come up with something truly brutal to test even the most accomplished bike-handlers.

Tens of thousands of fans are set to convene for the showpiece events and they certainly won’t be disappointed if seeing riders battle a technical course is what they’re after.

Former world champion Sven Nys offered these words to a local news outlet when asked for his thoughts on the course:

“The parcours for the Luxembourg World Championships is one of the most beautiful courses in recent years,” he said.

“Of course we will have to wait and see what the weather will do because it always has the last word.

“But there are definitely three, four or five very technically difficult sections. If someone has problems on off-cambers or descents, they don’t need to come to Luxembourg.”

He’s not kidding, because this video of some riders on a recce ride tells you all you need to know; it will be horrific.

The men will be sorted from the boys very fast in all of the races.
