Wexford Two Day adds A1 event for this coming weekend; secures major sponsor

The Wexford Two Day this coming weekend has had such a high number of entries that the organisers, Wexford Wheelers, have now added an A1 race to the schedule.

And after a break of some 21 years from the Irish scene, the race has also secured the backing of the well known Wexford business Stafford Wholesale, which will hopefully secure the event’s future for the next number of the years.

Michael Noonan of the host club told stickybottle he was delighted with the response so far from riders who have pre entered.

“It’s amazing to us that the race has been gone for so long off the Irish scene and yet we’ve now sold out the race for A2 and A3 combined and also the A4 event,” he said.

“We have a separate race now for the A1 riders on their own and a separate one for female riders as well. And because we have only just changed the plans to include an A1 event, we obviously still have places for that. So we’re urging riders to get in touch and come down for the three stages this weekend.”

Noonan said he and his team of officials were also hoping for some more entries for the women’s one day race.

“Obviously the more we have in the women’s race and the A1 race the better it will be for the riders. Even today, I had a few calls from some of the best A1s in the country checking the details of the race and saying they will be here so we’re looking forward to seeing them and hopefully a lot more.”

The A1 race starts on Saturday with an 80km road stage and is followed on Saturday evening by a hilly 4km time trial, with the race concluding on Sunday with a 110km road stage.

The combined A2 and A3 event follows the same format and stage distances as the A1 race. The A4 race involves a 66km stage 1 on Saturday, 4km TT on Saturday evening and 8okm stage 3 on Sunday.

The women’s race is a one-day event, on Saturday, and takes the form of a 66km road race.

Just to reiterate, the A4 event is sold out, as is the combined A2&A3 race. But there are places in the A1 race and in the one-day women’s event.
