Never a man to shy away from a confrontation, Nacer Bouhanni has apologised for his behaviour at Paris-Bourges.

The Cofidis rider was involved in the sprint for victory but came up well short. Rudy Barbier (AG2R-La Mondiale) emerged with victory.

But Bouhanni claims the winner engaged in dangerous riding in the build up to the sprint. And he said he almost crashed.

At the end of the race he confronted Barbier. A heated exchanged ensued, with a large group of people – including riders – getting involved.

“I reacted emotionally at the finish; I had just been very scared,” he said on social media.

“Rudy Barbier’s sprint was completely irregular and particularly dangerous. I avoided a big crash that could have put a lot of riders in danger.

“I apologise to the people who saw this scene for what I said. But I was exasperated. All the work of the team was swept away by the behaviour of Rudy Barbier.”
