Video: Bloke steals bike from under noses of Dublin gardai
We knew nowhere in Dublin was safe from bike theft, but this video really proves it. Above, Store St Garda station
It won’t exactly come as news to anyone that bikes are still being stolen in Dublin. The city has seen rocketing thefts in recent years.
And no part of the capital is regarded as safe to lock your bike. But the owner of this bike had one very good reason to have a degree of confidence.
They had parked their bike, chained to a lamppost, right across the road from Store St Garda station.
However, while the spot he chose was in front of the station and sandwiched between a Luas stop and Busáras, the location proved no protection.
The clip below – from Independent.ie – clearly shows a guy approaching the bike on the busy street.
He checks it out for a few seconds and the proceeds to bust the lock by yanking the bike.
Some of those passing by are looking at him, but he’s disappeared into the traffic with the bike in an instant.
Moral of the story? If you’re locking your bike in Dublin don’t do so on the street.
Find indoor car parks that take bikes. Better still, ask any bike shop if you can park it with them for a while.
Some will charge a small fee; well worth it for the security offered.
