Sam Bennett, Peter Sagan both set for Tour Down Under

Having ended his 2017 season on a high at the Tour of Turkey just a few months, Sam Bennett is back on the road.

And for his first competitive outings of the year the Carrick-on-Suir man is part of a very strong team.

Bora-hansgrohe has included Bennett and Peter Sagan in its line-up for the Tour Down Under.

And the rest of the team is also comprised of very strong riders. They include Pete Kennaugh, Daniel Oss, Jay McCarthy, Maciej Bodnar and Rüdiger Selig.

The Bora-hansgrohe men are already in Australia ahead of the race, which starts on January 16th.

Bennett’s best result in the event was 3rd on the opening stage last year. However, he looked to be a different athlete by the end of the season.

And if he can recapture that form immediately he can enjoy significant success immediately.

In Australia he will of course face some very stiff opposition in the sprints.

Caleb Ewan is already race fit; winning the Australian criterium title this week.

Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) will also be in Australia and looking to get off to winning start, as will Quick-Step new boy Elia Viviani.

Sam Bennett had already confirmed he would compete in the People’s Choice Criterium just before the Tour Down Under.

Four days after the stage race the Irish sprinter will take to the start line at Race Melbourne.

And the final race of his stint in Australia will be the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race; on January 28th.
