After two years with Cannondale-Drapac, Ryan Mullen is leaving for rival WorldTour team Trek-Segafredo.

The team announced the move today, with Mullen’s new deal announced alongside Kiwi Alex Frame also joining the team. He has been riding with JLT-Condor this year.

“I’m so excited to be joining Trek Segafredo,” Ryan Mullen said.

“Since my initial conversation with them in the summer, we shared similar ideas and ambitions for the future.

“I am really excited to continue my development at Trek and I am confident it will be a successful combination over the coming seasons.”

Trek-Segafredo general manager, Luca Guercilena, said the team was delighted to sign both Mullen and Frame.

“Ryan and Alex are both young and very talented, and with them we want to continue investing in the development of young riders,” he said.

“They are both very strong guys and we are convinced they will be valuable assets for the team.

“Mullen will reinforce our time trial squad and Frame, with his experience from the track, is obviously a very fast rider who will be of great help in the lead-out and as we hope, also in the Classics.

“We strongly believe that they still have a large margin for improvement. I am confident that they will be a solid option for the future.”

Ryan Mullen is one of the most exciting prospects in the TT end of pro cycling. He won silver in the TT at the World Championships at U23 level.

He lost out to Campbell Flakemore (Australia) by less than one second in 2014.

However, while he was back the following year in the U23 Worlds he failed to recapture that form and would finish 11th.

But last year he underlined his progressed with 5th in the elite TT at the Worlds in Doha. And last month he won bronze in the elite TT at the European Championships in Denmark.
