Mark Dowling, above, and Marc Potts were on hand to help unveil the new sponsorship deal for the Rás Tailteann, just days out from the 2018 edition. The deal announced today is with Europcar, the car hire company.

Just days out from the 2018 edition of Rás Tailteann, the race has unveiled a new sponsorship deal with Europcar.

The company is a leading player in the international car hire market, with 19 centres in the Republic.

It is throwing its weight behind the Rás; supplying a fleet of vehicles and also taking over the climbers’ classification sponsorship.

The race saw its long-term deal with An Post end last year. The organising committee has done a great job in keeping the show on the road for 2018, now assisted by the Europcar deal.

As well as backing the race with sponsorship, Europcar is also offering an all expenses paid trip on the race.

It includes a stage in the lead car and accommodation for the winner and a friend. You can enter very simply and quickly by following this link.

Jon Jerromes, head of business fleet services for Europcar Ireland, said he was looking forward to getting the company’s relationship with the eight-day international race underway.

“We’re delighted to announce our partnership with An Rás Tailteann,” he said.

“As a cycling fan, this is an event that is close to my heart and one that our business is uniquely positioned to support.

“Our network of branches across the country will offer logistical support to the race.

“And I look forward to seeing our flexible and agile fleet fulfil the diverse and demanding requirements of this amazing race.”

The fleet of new vehicles being supplied by Europcar will help keep the race on the road. And they’ll look pretty good too!

Supported by its nationwide network of branches, Europcar will provide a fleet of support cars and vans to the Rás.

It will fulfil all of the race’s transport needs including lead car, event logistics, delivery and photography cars over the eight day event.

International riders Marc Potts and Mark Dowling were present today to help launch the new deal.

And both were sporting the new-look king of the hills jerseys up for grabs next week.

Dowling and Potts will both be in contention for stage and overall honours, riding for Leinster Cycling and the Irish national team respectively.

The race will feature 31 teams when it gets underway this weekend; 12 from abroad and 19 domestic outfits.
