Video: On-board clip shows Nicolas Roche skillfully avoid Tour crash

Nicolas Roche was the last man to squeeze through, with a Bahrain Merida bike hurtling towards him. Those riders behind the Irishman – including Geraint Thomas – were not so lucky.

Nicolas Roche has confirmed that he was the last man through the carnage when a crash occurred in the closing stages of the opening stage of the Tour on Saturday.

The on-board footage and the overhead shots both show how road squeezed through.

When a Bahrain Merida rider went down hard just ahead of him and to his left, his bike flew across the road to the right and into the path of Nicolas Roche.

However, the videos below show how the Team Sunweb man kept his cool and managed to get through.

Those directly behind him were not so lucky. Indeed the crowd control barrier was rocking as Roche squeeze through because Geraint Thomas had hit it and was falling.

The on-board footage below is not great quality, but you will see Roche in the red of Sunweb getting past the crash on the right as the bike hurtles towards him.

And the overhead shot from the Tour de France itself shows another angle; Roche the last man through as everyone else is caught out.
