Mark Downey and Fintan Ryan took part in a highly-prestigious track meeting at the weekend in the UK, the Derby Revolution.

The event was attended by some of the sport’s luminaries with 2012 Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins teaming up with 26-time Tour stage winner Mark Cavendish in the Madison time-trial event.

Downey took part in the Individual Pursuit (IP), Scratch Race, Omnium and Madison time-trial, the latter with Irish counterpart Fintan Ryan.

In fairness to the fledgling Irish pair they performed pretty well in this discipline, competing against far more experienced competition from the UK, Belgium, Australia and France.

Similarly, Ryan did the IP, Scratch, Madison and Omnium and in the latter they finished 16th and 17th (out of 21 finishers).
