Mark Dowling will spearhead the ASEA-Wheelworx team in the upcoming Kerry Group Rás Mumhan after joining the star-studded domestic squad.

The 2014 winner of the race will form part of a formidable team that also includes Chris Reilly, Stephen Shanahan, Adam Armstrong and Ali Macaulay.

Dowling is one of the classiest riders on the home front and was unlucky not to have secured a place riding at continental level for 2016.

He had been one of five Irish riders on the Dynamo Cover roster but that squad folded in controversial circumstances before a pedal was turned.

The former DID Electrical rider was due to link up with Mark and Sean Downey, Philip Lavery and Ryan Reilly as well as 11 others.

However, despite that massive setback he’s as motivated as ever and will be keen to put it behind him as he builds for the forthcoming season – with the next fortnight two of his big goals.

He’ll go to the Des Hanlon on Sunday week as the defending champion and with a hillier course for this year, few could bet against him.

The Kerry Group Rás Mumhan is a race he should also push for again, but given the strength in his team, any of the five could win.

His move to ASEA-Wheelworx is an interesting one and from a situation where he was the undisputed leader of DID Electrical (now Dunboyne CC), he joins a squad with upwards of a dozen top names.

While ASEA-Wheelworx will be one of the strongest teams for the Kerry showpiece they’ll also send a strong line-up to the Tour of the North.

There, Bryan McCrystal, Niall Clarke, Mark Reilly, Neill Delahaye and Fraser Duncan will look to target stages and the overall.
