Having enjoyed a very strong latter section of the 2017 road scene, Adam Stenson has secured a place with a new team in Switzerland.

The international ride posted some very strong results just before the World Road Championships.

And they were enough to book his plane on the place to Bergen where he rode the U23 road race in the green of Ireland.

He has decided to give Continental racing a go next year and has found a place at Speeder Cycling Team.

It is an elite Swiss outfit focussed on developing U23 riders. The team is based in Brissago near Lake Lugano.

And Stenson and his team mates will race mainly in Switzerland and Italy next year. It is also likely to contest European UCI stage races.

Stenson was an excellent youth rider and junior. And while dogged with a knee injury for over a year, from January last year, he enjoyed a fantastic end to the 2017 campaign.

A very strong ride by the 19-year-old at the Suir Valley Three Day in August saw him claim the climbers’ classification.

He also went clear in a breakaway on the final day; on the run-in to The Nire finish climb.

And only stage and overall winner Mark Dowling (Strata 3-VeloRevolution) would catch and pass him.

The following weekend Stenson took another big step forward in his career. He claimed a very convincing win at the John Beggs Memorial.

He then went to Belgium and won a combined elite and U23 circuit race in Haasdonk.

As a result of those performances he clinched a place in the Irish team for the Worlds, which he also rode as a junior.
