A cyclist who suffered serious injuries when he collided with a pedestrian on a cycle lane in Dublin last weekend has died in hospital.
The man had been gravely ill since his crash in the Phoenix Park on Monday evening.
There were fears he may not survive and sadly those concerns have been realised, with the Garda confirming this afternoon the man has died.
The deceased was a 59-year-old who lived in Castleknock close to where he sustained his fatal injuries but was originally from the Co Cavan area.
He was receiving medical care at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, since falling from his bike but died last evening.
The collision occurred just after 8.30pm last Monday, at the end of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The deceased was cycling in a city-bound direction on the bike lane beside Chesterfield Avenue – the main road through the park – approaching Aras an Uachtaráin when he collided with a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, who is in his 30’s, was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown with leg and back injuries but was later discharged.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Cabra Garda Station on 01 6667400, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
