Having endured the collapse of his team Aqua Blue Sport, Casper Pedersen will be in the WorldTour next year.

The Dane has secured a place with WorldTour outfit Team Sunweb, where he will join Ireland’s Nicolas Roche.

The 22-year-old was signed by Aqua Blue Sport for this season after winning the U23 road race at the European Championships last year.

His best result this season riding in the colours of the now defunct Irish ProContinental team was at the Four Days of Dunkirk.

He was 2nd on the final stage, placed 5th overall and won the young rider’s classification. He has now signed a three-year deal with Team Sunweb.

The team said he would develop generally over the coming seasons. Pedersen would also focus on the Flemish classics and be part of the team’s sprint train.

“I am really happy to sign with Team Sunweb. I’ve been wanting to become a part of this team for years,” he said.

“So it’s truly a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to get to work with a new team of riders and staff.

“And I look forward to continuing my development as a rider and playing a part in what I hope are many successes together.”

Team Sunweb coach Marc Reef said the Dutch outfit was delighted to sign Casper Pedersen.

“We have been following him for quite a while now and we believe there is a lot of potential for him in the Flemish Classics and also in our sprint train,” he said.

“He will start in a support role and gradually grow in our way of working from there.”
