Victor Campenaerts Giro TT bike change video: Campenaerts was reduced to being pushed to start riding again by fans who intervened when the world hour record holder was left floundering.

Victor Campenaerts is in the TT form of his life at the moment having broken the world hour record.

But a mechanical and a bike change meltdown cost him dearly on the Giro today.

The Belgian testing specialist lost stage 9 of the race by just 11 seconds to the flying Primoz Roglic.

Campenaerts suffered a mechanical on the climb with about 1.5km remaining of the 34.8km stage.

But when he changed bikes his Lotto-Soudal mechanic forgot to push him off into action again.

He was given his road bike, rather than his spare TT bike; though a spare TT bike was on the roof rack of the team car.

Campenaerts was initially pushed by the mechanic before he got on the bike; strange as it sounds.

The rider then appeared to be jumping back onto the bike under his own steam.

But he soon floundered as the bike was stuck in a huge gear and he was on an incline.

There was nothing for it but for some fans by the roadside to intervene and push him off; ensuring he got going again and also that he didn’t fall off.

He surely would have taken his first Grand Tour stage but for the cock-up.

And it would have been a brilliant one to win considering he and Roglic were miles ahead of the rest.

Afterwards, with the blood still running high, Campenaerts remonstrated with the personnel in his team car, clearly irate at what had happened.
