Aqua Blue Sport has unveiled new kit for La Vuelta a España. The Irish ProContinental team has gone with a new white jersey for its Grand Tour debut.

The new look, modelled here by sprinter Adam Blythe, retains the St Patrick’s blue shorts. And with the gold chevron staying for both shorts and jersey, this looks pretty cool to us.

Aqua Blue Sport believes switching the jersey to white will create a “beacon in the peloton”.

The new kit will first be ridden in the Vuelta when it begins in Nimes, France, on Saturday week.

Patriotic Irish fans can rest easy in the knowledge the golden shamrock stays. And inside the collar is hidden an Irish tricolour with the words La Vuelta 2017.

The kit, as with all of Aqua Blue Sport’s racing clothing, has been produced by Vermarc.

Stephen Moore, the team’s general manager, said the new look is a nod to La Vuelta for extending a wildcard invite to Aqua Blue Sport.

“We’re all incredibly honoured to be taking part in La Vuelta,” said Moore. “And to mark the occasion we’ve decided to make a one-off white jersey.

“Our gold chevron, so visible in this year’s peloton, will remain an integral part of our jersey. And the blue will be there in the shorts.

“With the bright reflective quality of the white there is also the added benefit for the riders to deal with the high heat of Spain in August.

“We are really looking forward to showing our new colours,” said Moore.

He added the usual livery of St Patrick’s blue and gold will return for the remainder of the season.

Tatjana Verbeek of Vermarc Sport said the company was very keen to do the best job possible designing the kit for Aqua Blue Sport.

“We were delighted when we got the news the team had been invited to the Vuelta this year,” she said.

“Therefore we created a special white jersey with an ultra-light fabric. We cannot wait until Saturday to see the team perform in their new outfit.”
