News has emerged of a man being killed in a crash with a car this morning while cycling. His death is the 15th time this year cyclists have been killed on the Republic’s roads.

The cyclist death toll on the roads of the Republic has reached 15 with news of another death this morning.

The latest cyclist killed was fatally injured at about 7am in Waterford. He was in collision with a man driving a car.

“Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in the town land of Kilcop on the Dunmore Road, Co Waterford this morning, the 3rd December 2017,” a Garda statement said.

“The collision between a car and a cyclist occurred at approximately 7am.

“The cyclist, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford.

“This stretch of road is currently closed pending an examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051-305300, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.”
