Coaching: Micro intervals and improving your power in winter

Posted on: December 26th, 2018

Here’s some great ways to improve you power within your current training spins and even out in a group with other riders not working on power in winter.

Increasing power, along with decreasing weight, is the main aim of most cyclists trying to improve performance.

The video below not only talks us through ways we can improve power, but contains things we can do within our current training time.

And some of them can even be done when we are out in a group made up of other riders who have no interest in joining us in any power-specific riding.

It may be winter time now but many coaches will encourage at least some high intensity training at this time of year; just don’t go crazy.+

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Training in higher gears during intervals.
  • Staying seated when training and using your core to stay stable.
  • Doing sprints from a near standing start using big gears.
  • Micro intervals; repeated short efforts lasting for a matter of seconds within a longer interval period.
